Four weeks ago my watch battery died at about the same time the watch band broke in half. I figured it was time to get a new watch. But not being able to turn down a techie challenge I decided instead to try a little experiment. I wanted to see how long I could go without a watch. The reason I wanted to try this is because in Noobie's cell phone class, I tell the participants that cell phones have actually obsoleted certain consumer products for some people. One such product is the watch. A lot of teenagers these days… Continue reading...
I was excited when I read this today: Thanks to the support of the always amazing Mozilla community, we now hold a Guinness World Record for the most software downloaded in 24 hours. From 18:16 UTC on June 17, 2008 to 18:16 UTC on June 18, 2008, 8,002,530 people downloaded Firefox 3 and are now enjoying a safer, smarter and better Web. Why was I excited? I've been using a free 30 day trial of the Verizon Wireless VZ Navigator application on my Env2 mobile phone for a few weeks now. That's enough time for me to form an opinion although my opinion fluctuated over the course of the 30 days. My first impression of the VZ Navigator was that it was too small. Screen limitations aside, the VZ Navigator functionality is actually quite impressive. It… Continue reading...

Is it possible that GPS navigation systems could save lives? I think it is. Of course I'm partially biased because a woman almost ran me off the road today. Unfortunately, I didn't get a good look at the woman because she was wearing a large, unfolded paper map on her face. Now I'm not a driving instructor but I'm pretty sure this kind of driving is frowned upon. And if not, I'm definitely sure driving down the middle of a single lane road toward oncoming traffic while not paying a lick of attention to anything or anyone in front you… Continue reading...

I keep up pretty regularly with all things technology in the news. Which means I've known for quite some time that Guitar Hero is one of the most popular video games right now. I've even run into several adults that have the game and talk about how addicted they are to it. But until recently, I had never seen nor played Guitar Hero. That all changed on Father's Day when I received Guitar Hero for the Nintendo Wii game system. Many, many hours later I was still playing and my fingers on my left hand actually hurt from playing too… Continue reading...
